Re-Certification Procedures

The Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) is hereby advising that firearm licence holders are required by law to complete Recertification every five (5) years. Meaning holders whose licence(s) has/have exceeded five (5) years, and who has never completed the recertification process.
 
Firearm Holders who fall within this category are to contact the FLA immediately to schedule an appointment to begin the recertification process. Failure to complete this process may result in the revocation of your Firearm Licence. [Every licence shall continue in force for five years from the day on which it was granted - Section 34 of the Firearms Act. 
 
The recertification process involves an interview and taking your fingerprint. On the day of the interview, firearm holders will be required to submit the following documents: 
 
A.  One (1) Application Form (FLA001A). This form is to be completed and signed by ALL applicants. A valid secure email address MUST be written on the form. 
 
B.  One (1) passport photograph [solid background]. (Applicable only to persons/firearm holders who do not have a photo on the FLA database) 
 
C.  Two (2) Recommendations from any two (2) of the following categories of persons: Minister of Religion (must be a Marriage Officer), Justice of the Peace, Gazetted Rank Police Officer (not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Member of the JDF (Major and above), Member of Parliament, School Principal, Attorney-at-law, Medical Doctor or Resident Magistrate. (RECOMMENDATIONS MUST BE NO MORE THAN SIX (6) MONTHS OLD AND MUST BE ADDRESSED TO THE FIREARM LICENSING AUTHORITY).  *
 
D.  Proof of Name [copy and original of a valid passport or birth certificate].  *
 
E.  Fingerprint Receipt (CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED AT ANY TAX OFFICE). 
 
* PART  C – D  applicable only to persons being processed by the Authority for the first time since being granted a Firearm User’s Licence through the JCF. 
 
During the recertification process each individual will be fingerprinted and their firearm(s) ballistically tested. Shotguns do not require testing.  Application forms may be obtained at any of the FLA Offices: 91A Old Hope Road, Kingston 6/ Shop #9 Bogue City Centre, Bogue, Montego Bay, St. James/ Shop G15, James Warehouse Plaza, 24 Hargreaves Avenue, Mandeville, Manchester or on our website www .fla.gov.jm.com
